Bursa'nın en eski semtlerinden biri olmakla beraber, ismini Osmanlı döneminde yaşamış olan Çekirge Han adlı bir kişiden aldığı rivayet edilir, ayrıca Osmanlı döneminde o bölgede yaşanan bir çekirge istilası sonucu da bu bölgeye bu ismin verildiği de bir rivayettir. Günümüz Çekirgesi [ değiştir | kaynağı değiştir ] Çekirge bugün Bursa'nın modern, nezih ve elit yerlerinden biridir. Bursa denince akla gelen, Karagöz ve Hacivat'ın da mezarları bu semtte yer almaktadır. Diğer gerçek kişi osmangazi davalı hakkındaki davanın da bu davalıya bağlı olarak Tüketici mahkemesinde görülmesi gerekir.
